New Online Community Management Training

What better way to kick off the new year than to develop your community management skill set?  This summer I had the pleasure of taking the  "Essentials of Online Community Management" course that was taught by Ben Martin, CAE, of Online Community Results and Maddie Grant, CAE, of SocialFish. Even after working at Higher Logic for five years and being an active speaker at industry events, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I learned!

I would encourage every Community Manager to take this course, both as a newbie, or even as a refresher. It's ideal for full or part-time community managers and senior executives who oversee the online community initiative.  It's the perfect way to bring a newly-hired community manager up to speed on the top best practices right away.

The curriculum focuses on five key categories: Setting Strategy, Going Live, Sustaining Engagement, Managing Risk, and ROI & Reporting.  With five 30-50 minutes lessons, you can complete the course in a week, a month, or cram it all into one day.  I personally did in in two days and felt like I couldn't "put it down" akin to a good book.  A huge perk is that you don't have to wait for a live course to start.  The video lessons are available on-demand.

The class provided strong theory and application without the fluff. I was impressed with Ben's very succinct delivery that covered major talking points that was easy to follow and understand.  The software that is used to present the course material is very user friendly and provided a seamless user experience.

The material is presented in a manner that makes you feel motivated and excited to go on to the next chapter to learn the content. I wish I felt that way back in college! Each session came with a free sample document, template, or plan that you can adapt at your own organization.  The tools really help give you a head start on measuring engagement, creating a tactical plan, and help you avoid recreating the wheel.

If you're interested in strengthening your community management skills, Higher Logic is happy to offer our clients the training at $500 (50% off the retail value of the class).  Another huge perk is that you can earn up to 8 CAE credits upon completion of the course. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks,

Angelika

As I search for examples of online community training in HUG, I'm finding a LOT of broken links, 404 errors, and library docs that no longer exist :( the link in this blog post is just one example
