History

There are 1 version of this glossary term.

All Directory searches yield lists of users.  These are the "hits" or matches for the search terms used. The ds:FindContactSearch2 User Control is the basis for the display of search results.  This User Control is the basis for the Content Item routinely named "Search" on both the general and advanced Directory search pages.

The ds:FindContactSearch2 User Control replaces the still functioning ds:FindContactSearch User Control. Any Directory search can be updated to the latest display by simply adding a 2 to the end of the User Control name and replacing any outdated Parameters with options from the lists below.

Directory Search results respect settings established on the "My Privacy Settings" page by each user. Users can opt-out of appearing in Directory search Search results altogether, keep some areas of their information hidden, or make all aspects of their Profile available to all visitors. Search results will include or omit different information for each user based on these user-established settings.

Directory Search Results - Configuring Functionality and Format

Search results serve as a "scannable" list of common users, providing some information immediately and links to more details. Search results also allow users with immediate opportunities to interact with those in the list. Many Parameters allow these opportunities to be restricted as desired.

The functionality associated with Search results is in three broad categories:

1) Inclusion of Google Maps functionality

2) Inclusion of Profile fields per user

3) Inclusion of social functionality to add as contact or send messages

An example of a Directory search result utilizing all of these options looks as follows.

Google Maps

Address information provided through Directory search results can be accompanied by a map icon.  This icon opens Google maps in a new window with focus on the address or area listed in search results.  These maps respect privacy and display settings.  A user may choose to expose their street address to no one but allow Members to see their town and state. A user with these Privacy Settings will not expose their street address through the maps generated. The map icon will open a map in Google, but it will have focus only on the town.  The map will give no indication of the street address.

The icon to generate a map for each searh result can be hidden. This effectively disables users from immediately accessing a map for each user, but does not prevent a user from pasting address information into Google directly. To hide the map icon include theHideMapIcon="True" Parameter.

Profile Fields

Several Parameters exist to show or hide address, employer and other information on Directory search results. Inclusion of the following Parameters will expressly allow the following to be displayed

  1. Immediately upon clicking the "Export Data" Link pictured at left, the user will be prompted to save or open the file.  Select save.
  2. This will expose a page of seemingly disoriented information. Go to "Edit" on the menu bar and select "Select All"
  3. Right click on the selected data and click "Copy"
  4. Open Excel and access a new Workbook. Right-click on cell A1 and select "paste". The data will be placed in the columns correctly.
