    Hi All,
We are in the process of naming our community. How did you go about choosing yours?
Did you brainstorm it among the team? Or throw it out to just a select few? Were members/stakeholders involved?  Or did you just pull a name out of a hat?

And what are the best community names you have heard?

    Hi @Kim Harland

We only recently launched our community and are currently in the middle of a soft launch.
Our organisation wanted to take a co-creation approach to our community, so we worked with senior members to help name the platform so that they felt apart of the journey and creation of community that was theirs and not ours.

In Marketing we brainstormed a list of about 50 or so names, all names considered either basic, abstract and so on. then worked on a short list that we as an organisation would be happy with, then put it to a small number of our senior members to vote on. The process worked out well. Prior to going to our members we had our legal check to see if the names we had short listed checked out from a legal point of view.

    Good Luck!

    Hi @Kim Harland,

I'll admit we took awhile to settle on a name.

Our process involved brainstorming words that came to mind when thinking about the purpose of the platform and how we were going to use it.
You will find it easy to come up with names that have already been done before , so think about how it works with your company brand and the name you have for other elements such as your EDM's. It's good if you can create a link between them all.

It is important to us that the platform is not seen as just a Marketing & Comm's project, so we had an internal working group that had a rep from each department. We want to ensure that we get staff's buy-in for the platform so we have engagement on the platform from across the company. The internal working group came up with the ideas and shortlist, then our executive team decided on the final name. Our members were not involved mainly due to time restraints.

I saw GP's created a brand suite. So for Higher Logic it was called ShareGP then they followed that through with NewsGP, RecruitGP etc. Simple but looks effective.

    Good luck with naming!

Thanks very much for your feedback @Nick Berry and @Sasha Andersen.
Collaboration going to be key I think. I quite like the idea of allowing a select group of our members have input. We have a team meeting tomorrow so it will be interesting to see what we come away with!

    Hi Kim,

I know some of our clients try and get member insights when naming their community which will give you an opportunity to let them know whats coming pre launch.

Some clients have ran competitions for the best name by a member, printed t shirts and provided swag with the final name of their community post launch.

I am sure you have thought about all the potential names like SCCA Connect, SCCA Engage, "The Classroom" , "The Breakout Hub", "Campus Community" (CC). Its about as creative I can get at 8 am before my first coffee.... :)
