In attending the latest HUG Superforum - I found that there were other clients with Boxwood Career Centers - that were unaware that they can easily create a Job Bank feed content item on the homepage of their HigherLogic site. So I thought to document how I did mine, so others could recreate it on their site.
To begin (logged in as someone with administrative rights) you would click on "Add to the Page" to have a new content item started.
- For a title, you can use something like "Latest listings in the Career Center". We've unchecked the Show box.
- Select in what section, you want your content item to appear. On our homepage we have ours appearing in section 4.
- In the end we make the content available to Everyone but while you are configuring the item I would select Content is available to Site Administrators so your member experience is not affected while you are tweaking it.
- Type of content is a User Control
- User Control class is: ws:RSSReader and here is where we have checked to Send the Title.
You'll need to then "Save and Return to Site" in order for the User Control Parameters to then be available for use. So having been returned to your site, you will then select "Edit the Page", find your new content item among the Active Content list and click on the title to return to editing it
In the User Control Parameters, you'll want to include (I'm using my site's URLs, but Boxwood's syntax is consistent across all of their clients, so you will see where to make the changes to your URL)
FeedUrl="http://careers.iltanet.org/jobs?display=rss" (replace 'careers.iltanet.org' with your Boxwood Career Center URL)
NumberToShow="5"
MoreText="full listing of all jobs"
ShowMoreUrl="True"
MoreUrl="http://careers.iltanet.org/jobs" (again replace 'careers.iltanet.org' with your Boxwood Career Center URL)
ShowDescription="True"
What you'll end up with is a nice small listing of the latest additions to your career center always being updated on your HL site with a link to the full career center at the bottom of the listing.
Once you've got the content item looking the way you'd like, be sure to go back in and edit the content item and change the settings so that it is available to "Everyone"
On a side note - if your Boxwood Career Center has a significant number of "Featured Jobs" or you would like to make it an added benefit that those who pay for the featured jobs are the only ones who get additional exposure in the feed to your connected community site, then you would change your feed URL slightly. For our site it would be
FeedUrl="http://careers.iltanet.org/jobs/?filter=featured_at:627772&display=rss" (again replace 'careers.iltanet.org' with your Boxwood Career Center URL. Where we have the 627772 in the URL - you would need to check with your Boxwood account rep for your site's number on their system to make a correct URL syntax. Getting the correct URL for your site will allow you to see what amount of content would actually flow from your site into your HL content item if you made it "Featured Jobs" only.)
The caveat is that if at anytime, you have no featured jobs in your career center - your content item on your HL site won't have anything as well. Our preference is to always have content flowing to the site and constantly changing so we preferred to stick with feeding jobs as they are being posted in our career center into our HL content item.
